BRIDGEWATER, Maine — An early-morning tractor-trailer crash on U.S. Route 1 in Bridgewater Jan. 15 backed up traffic and resulted in a detour for several hours.
At 5:40 a.m., Abdellatif Majji, 56 of Las Vegas, was traveling south on U.S. Route 1 and lost control on a patch of ice. The truck crossed the roadway, going off the northbound side of the road and striking a utility pole, flipping the truck onto its side and causing the cab of the truck to detach from the truck.
Majji and his female passenger, Fatima Hmidouche, 36 also of Las Vegas, both escaped injury in the crash. The tractor-trailer sustained substantial damage in the accident and was towed from the scene after the cargo of rolls of paper were offloaded by a crew at the scene.
Route 1 was closed for several hours while the accident scene was cleaned up and the utility pole was replaced. Maine State Police trooper recruit Adam Bell responded to the incident. Bridgewater Fire Department and Maine State Police troopers Nick Casavant, Robert Flynn and Darryl Pelletier assisted.
