AMITY, Maine — An Amity teenager was lucky to avoid injury early Tuesday morning following a crash in Hodgdon.
According to Darrell Crandall, deputy chief for the Aroostook Sheriff’s Department, a 16-year-old Amity female, whose name was not released, was traveling north on Route 1 in a Toyota Camry with 10-day dealer plates at about 2:30 a.m.    Crandall said the driver of the vehicle did have a valid driver’s license, but was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The driver lost control of the vehicle in the area of the Jackins Settlement Road when it struck a patch of ice. The vehicle left the road, rolled over and caught fire. The driver, who received only minor injuries, was able to get out of the car and go to a nearby residence to call for help.
The Hodgdon Fire Department responded and extinguished the flames, but the vehicle was totaled.
No charges were filed in the incident.
