Shiretowners remain undefeated; teams midway through season

The Shiretowners kept their undefeated record intact, with a 62-48 win over Calais last Friday night in Houlton.
Kyle Bouchard scored a game-high 28 points, while hauling in 10 rebounds for the Shires. He was supported by Nick Guiod’s all-around performance of 13 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Christian Crane tossed in another 13 points for the 9-0 winners.
The Houlton Shiretowners also had Dan Howe back in the lineup after being sidelined with knee tendonitis.    Calais was led by Tyler Niles’ 15 points, Kyle Johnson’s 12 and Nathan Newell’s eight. The Blue Devils are 6-2 with both losses to Houlton.
Houlton led at all the quarter breaks: 17-9; 31-24 and 50-38.
Hodgdon 71, East Grand 48 — Monday in Hodgdon, the Hawks not only celebrated a win, but junior Chris Hudson’s 1,000th high school point on a fourth-quarter drive on the baseline off a Tyler Sherman assist. Hudson poured in 40 points to reach the milestone.
The Hawks took a nine-point halftime lead and outscored the Vikings 18-10 in the third quarter to pull away.
Sherman and Deyrell Vargas added eight points apiece for Hodgdon, which is now 10-1, with the only loss to Houlton.

    The Hawks and Shires will have a rematch tonight at 7 p.m. in Houlton.

East Grand was led by Kenny Winiarski’s 21 points and Logan Crone’s 11.
Hodgdon led at the quarter breaks 17-9; 34-26; 52-36.
Hodgdon 76, GHCA 39 — Last Wednesday in Hodgdon, the GHCA Eagles came out and hit five 3-pointers to stake an eight-point lead, 18-10, but the Hawks regrouped and outscored GHCA, 28-8, for a halftime lead of 38-26 en route to the win.
Hudson led Hodgdon with 28 points, while Sherman tossed in 11 more. Kyle Ramsey and Daden Palmer each netted eight points.
For GHCA, Dana Brown scored 15 points, while Aaron Holmes and Jed Grant each put in eight points.
Hodgdon 63, Katahdin 47 — Last Tuesday in Hodgdon, the Hawks led throughout the game 20-14; 32-27 and 47-36 to take the win.
Hudson led all scorers with 20 points, while Blake Woods netted 10; Devon Quint, nine and Keegan Gardner eight points.
The Cougars were led by T.J. Young with 13 points and Nick Lane’s eight.
Katahdin 79, East Grand 28 — The Cougars jumped to a 26-9 lead to start the game and held a comfortable 36-20 halftime cushion, as they picked up the win last Wednesday night in Stacyville.
Lane scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Katahdin, while teammates Wyatt Morse netted 13 points, including three 3-pointers; Gavin Russell scored 12 points and Dylan Porter added 10.
Crone tossed in 14 points. including four 3-pointers, while Winiarski chipped in with 10 points for East Grand.
GHCA 33, Limestone/ MSSM 53 — The GHCA Eagles started off hot in the first quarter of last Tuesday’s game at UM-Presque Isle as they took a 20-8 lead. But, Limestone/MSSM took control in the second turning the scoring to a 21-15 halftime advantage. In the third, Limestone/MSSM led 38-25.
Brown led GHCA with a game-high 20 points, while Holmes knocked down 11 more.
For Limestone/MSSM Chris Bernier scored 10 points, while four more Eagles scored eight points apiece.
Though no recap was available at presstime, the Southern Aroostook Warriors picked up a lopsided victory, 58-29, over visiting Central Aroostook on Monday night in Dyer Brook.
