CARY — Deputies from the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Department Jan. 8 recovered a stolen vehicle that has been missing since mid-November.
According to Deputy Chief Darrell Crandall, a 1997 Nissan pickup truck owned by Benjamin Wilcox was reported stolen from the driveway of his home on Wilcox Road in Cary on Nov. 14. The actual theft, however, could have happened up to three weeks before that.
Also stolen from the Wilcox residence was a 17-foot canoe, which has yet to be recovered.
The vehicle was recently discovered about 300 yards beyond the end of the Little Road in Linneus, nearly buried by snows, by a citizen.
“It was quite a project to get the truck out because it had been abandoned there by the thieves prior to the snow,” Crandall said. “MDOT brought equipment to the area to make a road to the truck and pull it out. A wrecker was called to take the truck to the Border Patrol garage so deputies could process it for DNA and fingerprints.”
During the investigation, sheriff’s deputies recovered personal checks that had been in the stolen truck, which were forged and passed at businesses in Hodgdon and Linneus. Crandall said deputies were able to gather enough information to charge Joshua Clark, 30, and Robert Brewer, 21, both of Linneus, with receiving stolen property for possessing and passing these checks. Brewer was also charged with forgery.
The investigation continues into the theft of the truck and canoe, and anyone with information on this crime is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 1-800-432-7842. They may also contact the Sheriff’s office via the “MyPD” smartphone application for iPhone and Android.
