LITTLETON — The convenience of fuel, coffee and snacks is now being offered for area residents, as well as travelers, as the Littleton Pit Stop opened for business Dec. 30 at 1678 U.S. Highway 1, formerly C&W Citgo.
The business had been closed for two years before Gordon and Crystal Hagerman took it over two months ago, as they began restoring it.
“I had been thinking about it for a year or so,” said Gordon Hagerman. “There was a need and I needed a job.”
Residents missed the ease of just dropping by the store for a gallon of milk or gas for their lawn mower, snowmobiles or other equipment.
“Monticello or Houlton were the other options for services,” said Hagerman. “Everyone just missed it being open.”

Gordon had worked as a bus mechanic at RSU 50 and before that, he and his family owned Hagerman Brothers, which was located where Freightliner of Maine is now. His wife, Crystal, worked at the Maine Revenue Service.
“The plan was to let Gordon operate the Pit Stop and I would continue to work,” she explained. “But, they closed our office. This was our answer. It all worked out.”
Littleton Pit Stop is still in its infancy, with the Hagermans introducing more plans for the Pit Stop as time progresses.
“We have totally renovated the store,” he said. “We are running low key without much advertising, except for word of mouth and Facebook, until we learn the system.”
Inside, plans for the store include an open layout. There was a wall dividing the store from a garage area, but that has been removed to open the space. Right now, the soda machines provide a stopgap until further work is completed.
“We are in the process of adding a walk-in cooler and diner,” said Hagerman. “The soda machines are temporarily located, while we finish renovations. We still have a lot to do.”
On Monday, the sign for the canopy was expected, which will make it more visible to traffic.
“So far, business has been good,” said Hagerman.
The Littleton Pit Stop offers gas and diesel, as well as a variety of product lines for snowmobile and penetrating oils. The Hagermans have stocked some grocery items, but mostly the store has snacks and soda.
“Later on, we are putting in a parts room and we will have farm implement parts and a full-service garage,” Hagerman added.
The garage will be open Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday by appointment. The Littleton Pit Stop is also a state certified motor vehicle inspection station.
The store is open Monday through Saturday 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. The fuel dispensers are full service and will accept not only debit or credit, but cash as well. The featured gasoline is Sunoco brand, which is the official gas for NASCAR, thus the name Pit Stop.
“We also have off-road diesel dispensers as well,” added Hagerman. “Once we get our fire suppressant system going, we will be open 24/7 for gas.”
