PT Mary StolarkMary E. (Seaman) Failing Stolark, formerly of Ilion and Liverpool, New York, died peacefully on Saturday, December 28, 2013, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Susan Failing in Houlton, Maine following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Mary was born November 6, 1919, in Frankfort, New York to Gordon Seaman and Elizabeth (Conners) Seaman. She attended Frankfort Schools and married Robert Melvin Failing in 1941. Following Robert’s death in 1972, Mary later married William Stolark in 1977.
Mary was a loving, kind and gentle person. She cared for many people in her lifetime and was always willing to help those in need. She was an accomplished seamstress and knitter. She worked for many years at Marine Midland Bank (HSBC) until her retirement. Mary moved from Ilion to Liverpool, New York in 1999, where she was blessed to have the love and support of her sister Margaret Rozwod and her nieces and nephews. As her health began to fail, she moved to Maine to live her remaining years in the loving care of her son Robert and his wife Susan, where she was a communicant of St. Mary’s of the Visitation Church. Alzheimer’s robbed Mary of many of her memories but, her loving spirit and her faith in God remained strong throughout her life.
In addition to her son and daughter-in-law, Mary is survived by her step-daughters Kathy Knapp of Madison, New York and Mary Jean Stolark of Rome, New York, her sisters Margaret Rozwod of Liverpool, New York and Marjorie Leary of Houston, Texas. She was very blessed to have many nieces, nephews and their children who remained in contact with her throughout her life. Mary is also survived by her good friend and housemate, Mildred Kirlin. She was pre-deceased by her parents; her first husband, Robert Failing; her second husband, William Stolark; and close friend, Russell Chesebrough. Also, her brothers Gordon (Larry) Seaman, Robert Seaman, Thomas Seaman, James Seaman; and her step-daughter, Patty Rathbun.
Mary’s family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to two very special caregivers, Colleen London and Dorene Humphrey. Your kind and compassionate care enabled us to keep Mary at home. We could not have done it without you. Also, to Nancy Putnam, FNP and Hospice of Aroostook for their help and guidance that we so appreciated when we needed it the most.
A mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Tuesday, December 31 at 11 at St. Mary of the Visitation Church in Houlton. Calling hours were at 10 at the church up to the time of the funeral. A memorial service in Liverpool, New York will be held at a later date. Interment at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Houlton will be held in the spring.
