Aroostook County Emergency Management Agency Director Darren Woods has issued a warning to businesses of a scam they may encounter.
According to Woods, several businesses and health care organizations in Maine have been receiving calls about advertising. In these calls, they are advised that a local emergency management agency has referred them, and some even use the agency director’s name. To date, most of these businesses seem to be those that may be involved in cleanup of homes after fires and disasters, including plumbers, cleaners and debris removal personnel.
Woods said the Aroostook County EMA does not advocate for any businesses either in person or over the phone, and if anyone receives this type of call they should contact a local law enforcement agency.
