HODGDON , Maine — On Oct. 16, while the ninth grade was taking standardized tests, and the 10th and 11th grade took the PSAT/NMSQT exams, seniors at Hodgdon High School completed the second Annual Community Service Day. Group One worked with AABA, organizing clothes and other items in the new building located on Drakes Hill. AABA is a nonprofit organization that works with area businesses and service providers to bring hope and help to our community.
Taking part were students Kylee Godfrin, Courtney Jurson, Shelby Suitter, Anthony Mazzacco, Summer Stoddard, Megan Hebert, Angela Pokorny, Brandon Tucker, Dillon Meserve, Devin Valliere, Gregory Griffin, Tim Brooker and Lauren Howell.
Assisting with the Adopt-A-Block of Aroostook event were Tammy Goetsch, director; Ruth Steward, math specialist; Mrs. McGary, ed tech; MaryAnne Hare; technology teacher; Ms. Garcia, English teacher; Moose Karnes, bus driver; and Nannette Mills, senior class advisor and organizer of the event.
Two other groups stayed at the school. One group worked to winterize the school garden with Mr. Smith, learning center teacher and coach, Brian Gilpatrick, Tyler Sherman, Deyrell Vargas, and Jeff Wheeler. The second group worked on knitting hats for children in the area who need them. They included Ms. Ellis, JMG teacher, Hannah Chapla, Mikayla Chouinard, Kayla Doughty, Abigail London and Samantha Palmer.
