Men’s Club to host roast pork dinner

The Men’s Club of the Houlton United Methodist Church is sponsoring another roast pork dinner, along with homemade pies fresh from the kitchens of the ladies of the church. The supper will be held in the dining room of the church at the corner of Military and School streets in Houlton on Saturday from 4:30-6 p.m. Cost is $9 for adults and $5 for children under 12.

The proceeds from the dinner will be used to help fund the “Backpack for Kids” program, which supplies many children with nourishing food in the Houlton and Hodgdon communities. The United Methodist Church has been sponsoring this program for several years and members are pleased to be able to supply local kids with much needed food.
The kindness and generosity of County Yankee, Houlton Rotary Club, Andy’s IGA and many individuals within the community have been outstanding and has greatly contributed to the success of the program.
Unfortunately, as the weak economy continues, the need for the Backpack program continues and increases.
Anyone wishing to make additional contributions to help purchase food for hungry kids may do so the evening of the supper or by stopping by the United Methodist Church office Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon.
“We sincerely thank everyone who has supported this program in the past and pray for continued support of our children,” Karnes added
