Club brings classics to ‘The County’

It was ideal weather for the 14th annual North Country Cruisers Show ‘n Shine at the Southern Aroostook Agricultural Museum in Littleton.
More than 200 vehicles (193 registered) were displayed around the museum grounds, including the North Country Cruisers’ member cars and the Southern Aroostook Agricultural Museum equipment.

“It was perfect weather,” said Tim McAtee, show chairman. “Except for a soft lawn, but with cooperation, we puddle, muddled through.”
Throughout the weekend, several additional activities were held and each had a good turnout. On Saturday, the tractor pulls were successful, according to McAtee, while 42 cars went on the ice cream cruise and both bonfires were well attended, with “old friends and new friends made,” McAtee added. He extended thanks to Ray and Melanie Carmichael and Kenny and Joyce Smith for hosting the bonfires at their residents.
Several members also took their cars to be displayed on Saturday at the Gardiner Health Care Facility for clients and staff to enjoy during a harvest activity.
The Show ‘n Shine featured cars from Maine, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
“Our sponsors helped us make this as a no-charge event,” explained McAtee. “It is a real feather in the area’s cap. Thank you and thanks to all of the volunteers who helped out.”
The children’s games went off without a hitch, including the addition of a new game of teeter-totter driving, which was won by Ron Wilcox in four seconds. The counting stuffed sheep donated by Furniture Floors and North went home to Brad Flewelling. Another child, Jordan Toner, was put in a new car seat through the Cruisers’ child seat program.
“Grown ups tried their hand at the Blind Drive challenge in a side-by-side loaned to the club by Houlton Power Sports,” said McAtee.
Door prizes were awarded, T-shirts and the food booth both sold out and a few toys were donated for the Cruisin’ For Kids campaign. Children enjoyed breaking a piñata thanks to piñatas by Paula.
Four special awards in memory of John Wiggins, Tom Clukey, Phil Brusso and Charlie Belyea were presented. Winning the Best of Show award was Mitchell Saucier with a 2007 Dodge Durango and taking home the People’s Choice award was Cole Lane with a 1978 Dodge Express.
