Soccer teams hit the turf

    The high school soccer season is getting underway with several games played in the area. See Southern Aroostook County Scoreboard for schedule and results of games.
    On Saturday, the Houlton Lady Shires picked up a 2-1 win over visiting Calais when Emily Mooers broke a 1-1 tie with 38 minutes left in the second half. Bre Longstaff scored the equalizer in the first half, as Calais was ahead, 1-0, on a Jordan Hatch tally.

    Natalie Hill added an assist in the game. The Lady Shires are 1-1 on the season.
    In boys’ action on Saturday, the Shiretowners and Calais went to a 0-0 decision. Kole Buzzeo had two saves on two shots.

    In Danforth on Saturday, the visiting Easton Bears blanked the Vikings, 10-0.
    Scoring for Easton were Drew Sotomayer, three goals; Cody Halverson, two goals; Logan Halverson, Hunter Turner and Jordan Doody, a goal each.
    Last Friday in Hodgdon, the Hawks scored all their goals in the first half, while Katahdin of Stacyville countered in the second half, with Hodgdon holding on for a 3-2 win.
    Kicking off Hodgdon’s scoring was Devin Quint at the 25:30 mark unassisted, followed by a Chris Hudson goal at the 15:47 mark and 24 seconds later, a tally by Deyrell Vargas, with assists on both goals by Keegan Gardiner.
    Goalie Blake Woods blocked 12 of 18 shots faced.
    For Katahdin, Shey Lane and Riley Somers put the pressure on Hodgdon with a goal apiece. Katahdin goalie Todd Young stopped 20 of 28 shots faced.
    The Lady Hawks finished their game with Katahdin tied at 2-all on Friday.
    Jill Gough and Rachel Harmon provided the tallies for Hodgdon, while Bailee Moody and Kaycee Cintron scored for Katahdin.
    The Southern Aroostook Warriors defeated visiting Central Aroostook, 1-0 last Friday.

    Cameron Landry ran on to a chip by Cody Lassonde and booted the ball in the net with 15:42 left in the first half to score the winning goal. Goalie Austin White set back three of six shots, while Panther netkeeper Nick Dominique stopped 16 of 23 shots faced.
    The Warriors are 2-1, while the Panthers go to 1-3-1.
    On the girls’ side, Central Aroostook took a 5-1 win over visiting Southern Aroostook.
    Molly Anthony, Delaney Grass, Jordan Canney, Sam Kearney and Karli Levesque all scored for the Panthers.
    For the Lady Warriors, Cassidy Lyons tallied a goal.
    Last Thursday, the Central Aroostook Lady Panthers shut out Hodgdon, 3-0 in Mars Hill.
    Anthony scored all three goals for CAHS. The Lady Panthers led 1-0 at halftime.
    Val Estabrook and Cassidy Clark combined in goal for Hodgdon to stop 22 shots. For CAHS, April Santiago blocked all 12 shots on goal.
    The Hodgdon boys and Central Aroostook Panthers went into double overtime before Hodgdon’s Gardiner scored on a penalty kick with 44 seconds left in the second overtime.

    Daden Palmer tied the game with a tally at the 15:02 mark of the second half. Goalie Woods had 11 saves on 26 shots.
    Dustin Pryor scored in the second half to even the score for the Panthers on a Caleb Dube assist. Goalie Spencer Garrison had five saves on 11 shots faced.
    At Dyer Brook last Wednesday, the Lady Warriors were defeated 10-0 by Madawaska. Southern Aroostook goalies Jess Nye and Marissa Boulier had seven saves on 17 shots.
    On the boys side, the Warriors were overpowered 7-1 by Madawaska in Dyer Brook.
    Cody Lassonde scored Southern Aroostook’s lone tally. Goalie White faced 19 shots.
    For Madawaska, which scored four goals on consecutive first half shots, Jake Gendreau finished with a hat trick, while Ethan Wetmore added two goals; Luke Gendreau scored and Ian Lee scored his 100th goal of his high school career.
    Goalie Tim Deschenes saw 10 shots on goal. He stopped eight.
