EAST MILLINOCKET, Maine — From start to finish, St. Peter’s Lawn Party of East Millinocket will be eight hours of fun for the hundreds upon hundreds of people who will be attending the annual event on Aug. 1 at 58 Cedar St. Slated to start at 11 a.m. and wind up at 7 p.m., the day will be filled with things to do including: crafts, fancy work, games, feasting on hot dogs and dough boys, laughing with Danny the Magician, participating in the 3 p.m. live auction, dining at the spaghetti supper, waiting anxiously for the drawing of the $200 gift certificate to Lounsbury’s, the $100 gift certificate to Preble OIl Co., or the two $25 cards from the Shell gas station and the drawing for the $1,000 give-away.
New this year to an event that has been celebrated for more than 70 years is the live auction featuring well in excess of 100 valuable auction items, not the least of these being: a back pack with liner, a set of doll house furniture, a LL Bean leather purse, a new fly fishing rod, a new Skill Saw and at least 10 gift certificates to local business or services.
The auction, which begins at 3 p.m., will feature the talents of well-known Maine auctioneer Kermit Cote. Participants must register to receive their bidding cards. Items will be on display throughout the day. Cash and credit cards will be accepted in payment.
Auction items are still being accepted. Persons or businesses interested in donating items should call St. Peter’s office, Monday through Thursday, at 746-3333.
Serving for the spaghetti supper will begin at 4 p.m. in the parish center. The menu will include baked beans. The cost is $7, payable at the door. The supper is an annual event put on by members of St. Anne Circle, No. 646, Daughters of Isabella.
The lawn party is the parish’s largest fundraiser and all proceeds will be donated to St. Peter’s Church to help that church meet its financial obligations.
