HOULTON — Last Wednesday there was more than normal police activity around the greater Houlton area. Some on Facebook reasoned it may be a drug bust, while others just wanted to know what was happening on Westford Hill in Hodgdon since there were lots of police there with their combat gear.

Bruce Folsom allowed the Maine State Police to use a home on Westford Hill for their monthly tactical training exercise.
According to John Cote, acting commander of Troop F, these exercises are held around the state at different locations to keep officers updated on the most current strategies in a variety of scenarios for law enforcement.
“Scenarios are based on ‘real world’ circumstances and are often structured around recent events that law enforcement agencies have encountered,” Cote explained. “Events like the Newtown, Conn. school shooting, the search for the Boston Marathon bombers, and other local and national events can drive how law enforcement agencies will respond to similar incidents in the future.”
