Jim and Arlene Flye, former residents of Island Falls have returned home to Pennsylvania after spending a week in the area visiting with the many friends they had made while he was minister at the Island Falls United Baptist Church and Arlene taught school. I spoke with Jim while he was here and they certainly miss everyone and are finding living in another state some different from living in a less populated area such as ours.
Charlene Webb has recently become the recipient of a new, smaller wheelchair given to her by good friends, Kathy and Clifford Gallagher. Charlene’s former wheelchair was a bit too big for easy maneuvering in her kitchen and now she is calling the Gallaghers “Angels in Disguise” and is happily sailing around her kitchen in her new chair.
Cousin Alan Chamberlain, who is spending the summer at his camp on Lower Mattawamkeag Lake, has a friend from Las Vegas, Nev. visiting him for the next three weeks and I am sure he will enjoy our 70’s climate a lot better than the 104 that they have had in Nevada. I just hope the mosquitoes will not spoil his visit and that the fish will be biting.
I have now hung my hummingbird feeder right outside my kitchen window and can get a good look at the tiny birds as they come for their meal. I have both male and females, but the females seem to dominate the morning feeding. I am not putting out bird seeds now so have not seen too many of my feathered friends lately and have finally decided that the reason we have not seen any deer in our neighborhood is because we have no vegetable gardens for them to nibble on.
Back when we had a large garden, and our neighbor Sam had a big garden, we had deer galore running between Sam’s house and ours. Maybe next year I will plant some carrots and beets and see what happens.
