Tom Hawkes and son, Chris arrived at my home on Saturday, June 15, prepared to go to work and do all the cleaning up around the perimeter of my large lawn. There were lots of dead limbs to cart away and brush to cut back from growing too close to the mowing area.

They did a fantastic job and, following lunch, returned to their homes in Glenburn. The weather cooperated and we didn’t have any rain until late in the afternoon when all the work was completed.
I heard recently from my friend, Clayton Varney, who now lives in Humble, Texas, and on his birthday, June 5, he was pleasantly surprised by a visit from an old friend from his work days in New Hampshire, Ronnie Ward and his wife and son, Shelly Stevens, Marion Hoar and myself did our volunteer duty at the Upper Room in Sherman on June 15 and were quite busy during the four hours we were there, even though there was a large yard sale going on during the day in the town.
I am still putting out sunflower seeds as I have quite a few small birds that seem to like to get their meals from my feeders. I still have gold finch, redpolls and wrens and chickadees and once in awhile, a stray blue jay appears. I have refilled my hummingbird feeder and watched one day as a couple of the tiny birds had their fill. My flowers have not yet had any blooms on them and my bee balm has not yet started so they like the feeder to get their meals. Saw a pretty fox trotting across my back lawn the other afternoon, heading for the woods near by. He appeared to be in a hurry so maybe she has a family near by.
I still have the pair of crows who arrive every day and perch on my birch tree waiting for me to throw out some bread crumbs for them. Maybe some day I will see a deer again on my back lawn.
