The Houlton High School tennis squads played Fort Kent, with the girls losing their double match, 0-5, and the boys were defeated in both matches by the score of 4-1.
In singles, Abby Stevens of Fort Kent defeated Caleigh Sullivan of Houlton 8-1; Kelsy Pelletier of Fort Kent defeated Tessa Winship of Houlton 8-1; and Amelia Guimond of Fort Kent defeated Janelle Levesque 8-1.
In doubles, Allie Prescott and Sam Dubay of Fort Kent defeated Piper Flewelling and June Choi of Houlton 8-3; Alexa Pelletier and Brooke Jandreau of Fort Kent defeated Madeline Anderson and Lauren Hogan of Houlton 8-0.
In singles, Stevens of Fort Kent defeated Sullivan of Houlton 8-1; Lauren Doak of Fort Kent defeated Winship of Houlton 8-1; and Alexa Pelletier of Fort Kent defeated Levesque of Houlton 8-1.
In doubles, Amelia Guimond and Rudy Martin of Fort Kent defeated Flewelling and Choi of Houlton 8-0; Prescott and Gentile Prescott of Fort Kent defeated Anderson and Hogan of Houlton 8-1.
On the boys side, Houlton also fell twice to Fort Kent by scores of 4-1.
In the first singles match, Lance Jandreau of Fort Kent defeated Josh Sullivan of Houlton 8-3; Ryan Chasse of Fort Kent defeated Ethan Nickerson of Houlton 8-2; and Lucas Grant of Houlton defeated Adam Labbe of Fort Kent 8-2.
In doubles, Boo Prescott and Eric Deschene of Fort Kent defeated Robby Woods and Steven Philips of Houlton 8-3; and Tito Naranja and Kamran Hussaine of Fort Kent defeated Dakota Gramour and Isaiah Little of Houlton 8-1.
Fort Kent now stands at 6-3 while Houlton stands at 3-4 on the season.
In the second match, singles, Jandreau of Fort Kent defeated Sullivan of Houlton 8-0; Chasse of Fort Kent defeated Nickerson of Houlton 8-2; and Grant of Houlton defeated Labbe 8-5.
In doubles, Boo Prescott and Eric Deschene of Fort Kent defeated Robby Woods and Steven Philips of Houlton 8-1; and Tito Naranja and Rowan Stamp of Fort Kent defeated Chris Crane and Hunter McLaughlin of Houlton 8-6.
Earlier in the week, the Houlton boys lost to Presque Isle, 4-1.
In singles, Liam Hughes of Presque Isle defeated Sullivan of Houlton 8-2; Nickerson of Houlton defeated Drew Barrett of Presque Isle 8-2; and Chase Norton of Presque Isle defeated Grant of Houlton 8-4.
In doubles, Mike Michaud and Chris Carroll of Presque Isle defeated Woods and Phillips of Houlton 8-3; and Andrew Dyer and Zach Breton of Presque Isle defeated Chris Crane and Hunter McLaughlin of Houlton 8-4.
Presque Isle now stands at 2-4 while Houlton stand at 3-2 on the season.
In softball action on Monday, the Hodgdon varsity girls defeated visiting Houlton in softball, 33-20.
Alicia Rockwell of the Hodgdon Hawks rapped a triple, double and single, while Rachel Harmon and Jenna Steamer each added two singles apiece to complement Rockwell’s effort.
Tanika Toby led Houlton with a double and three singles, while Alana Stewart tripled and doubled for the Shires.
In Ashland, the Southern Aroostook girls lost a close game, 14-12.
Shea Craig of the Hornets came on to pitch the first inning and finished with nine strike-outs.
Shaydin Lillis of Southern Aroostook singled twice while Desirae Dubois singled and drove in two runs for Dyer Brook’s Warriors.
In a battle of pitches, Kayla Dube of Penobscot Valley finished with a four-hitter and struck out 13 to defeat rival pitcher Ashley Randall of Katahdin who struck out 7 by a 2-1 margin.
Leading the Cougars with a double and a single was Ashley Randall while Megan Merry and Mackayla Patterson each added in a single.
In baseball action on Monday, Senior Day for the Hodgdon Hawks Drew Gough earned the 4-2 win in relief in a close game with the visiting Houlton Shires.
The Hawks scored four times in the fourth inning to hold on for the win.
Hodgdon was led by Nick Lunn who hit a single, double and two RBIs. Sam Horton added two singles and an RBI for the Hawks.
Houlton was led by Isaiah Straubel, who had two singles. Hodgdon now stands at 9-2 while Houlton is at 1-5.
Shey Lane’s three-run double was the highlight of an eight-run fourth inning which led Katahdin to victory over Penobscot Valley, 12-10, on Monday.
Spencer Anderson added in three singles, Billy Livezey rapped a triple and a single, and Matt Birmingham also had two singles of his own.
The Southern Aroostook boys overpowered host Ashland, 26-2, on Monday.
The Warriors had a total of 24 hits in their victory. Austin White had two doubles and two singles, driving in five runs, while Jesse Boulier had five singles and drove in four runs. Will McGary added a double, triple, and two single with three RBIs for the 8-1 Warriors.
