PI swims to second at County meet

    CARIBOU – Over 200 boys and girls from five communities gathered at the Caribou Community Pool for the first of four Northern Maine Community Recreation Association swim meets last Friday. Presque Isle, Caribou, Fort Kent, Fort Fairfield and Mapleton swimmers competed in several events. Caribou captured first place with 577 points followed by Presque Isle with 459, Fort Fairfield at 193, Fort Kent at 118 and Mapleton at 114.     During the meet point totals were tabulated to determine the best individual swimmers by division. The following swimmers notched high point totals: boys’ ages 8 and under, Jake Kinney (Presque Isle) and Leigh Buck (Presque Isle); girls’ ages 8 and under, Kate Goulet (Presque Isle); boy’s ages 9 and 10, Eric Lusardi (Caribou); girls’ ages 9 and 10, Abbey Estey (Mapleton); boys’ ages 11 and 12: Issac Estey (Mapleton); girls’ ages 11 and 12, Laura Lusardi (Caribou); boys’ ages 13 and 14 Stephan Goulet (Presque Isle); girls’ ages 13 and 14, Erica Hemphill (Presque Isle) and Katie Plourde (Caribou); boys’ ages 15 to 18, Zack LaValle (Caribou); girls’ ages 15 to 18, Amber Wasson (Fort Fairfield).

    In the boys’ eight and under, J. Kinney placed first in freestyle and breaststroke and second in backstroke. Buck placed first in backstroke and butterfly and second in freestyle.
    Girls’ 9- and 10-year-old: Freestyle: 9, Cheyene Judkins; 11, Miranda Jandreau; 15, Trisha Valiquette; 18, Elise Guerrette; 20, Sedona Lucas. Backstroke: 10, Jandreau; 12, Lucas; 14, Judkins.     In girls’ 13- and 14-year-old events, E. Hemphill placed first in freestyle and breaststroke and second in butterfly, and Jesse Lucas placed ninth in freestyle and backstroke and seventh in breaststroke.
    S. Goulet placed first in freestyle, breaststroke and butterfly in the 13- and 14-year-old division.
    Divya Bisht placed fourth in the 15- to 18-year-old events in freestyle and breaststroke and third in backstroke.
    Presque Isle’s next swim meet is Saturday, July 19 in Fort Fairfield.
