Turner, 79, passed away July 6, 2008, at a Presque Isle hospital. He was born in Presque Isle on January 7, 1929, the fifth son of David N. and Beulah (Johnson) Turner.
    He served in U.S. Navy on the USS Gearing from 1952-55. He returned home to the family farm. Richard started a painting and wall papering business in 1971, and continued this until he retired. He enjoyed traveling all his life, and in the later years took many trips to visit his children and extended family. An avid outdoorsman all his life, he was happiest spending time with friends and family in the outdoors. He served as Scoutmaster of the Mapleton Boy Scout Troop from 1977-82. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Presque Isle, and a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Richard and his wife Norma (Levesque), originally from Caribou celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 28, 2008. He has touched many people’s lives and will be greatly missed.
    He is survived by his wife Norma of Mapleton, his children and their spouses, Karl and Judy (Spaniol) Turner, and their children Isabelle and Hayden of Portland, Oregon, Sybil and Mark Pressprich, and their children Peter “Otto” and Emily of Oregon, Wisconsin, and Myles and Jacqueline (Jones) Turner and their children Julian and Vincent of Orondo, Washington; three brothers, Philip of Caribou, Sidney of Rutland, VT and Vinal of Castle Hill; and a sister, Hope Noe of Concord, MA. He was predeceased by a brother, Osmand Turner.
    A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated 10 a.m. Sat., July 12, 2008, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Presque Isle with the Very Rev. Jean LaBrie officiating. Relatives and friends called 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. Interment was in Southside Cemetery, Mapleton.
