HOULTON – Catherine Laurina (Gravel) Tomah 83, died peacefully April 9, 2013 at Madigan Estates in Houlton. She was born May 24, 1929 at Stockholm, the daughter of Jean Baptitse and Catherine Isabelle (Michaud) Gravel.
Catherine was a communicant of Saint Mary of the Visitation Church. She was a foster mother for many years to over 50 children.
Catherine is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Young and her husband, Larry, of Houlton; foster children, Donna Anderson and her husband, Jody, of Houlton, Billy and Donnie Crawford of Vermont, Debbie Crawford of Houlton; four grandchildren, Amanda Dwyer and her husband, Paul, of MI, Laura Holmes and Jeremy Young, both of Houlton, Jason Young of NH; four foster grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; her brother, Jean Gravelle of PA; several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her parents; her husband, Paul Tomah; her daughter, Janice Ellis; her grandson, Darren Ellis; and fourteen siblings.
A mass of Christian burial was celebrated Saturday, April 13 at Saint Mary of the Visitation Church with Rev. David Raymond celebrant. Spring interment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
