DAV Mobile Service Office to visit Star City Monday

PRESQUE ISLE – The DAV Mobile Service Office will be in Presque Isle from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday, July 21. The van is a fully equipped “office,” which will be parked at the Wal-Mart parking lot, and will be staffed with a DAV National Service Officer. These officers are fully trained and professionally schooled in the full range of services and benefits for all veterans, military retirees and their families. They also provide the best counseling and claim filing assistance one could receive.     According to Jim Gehring, adjutant of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 10, in Presque Isle, the latest numbers indicate there are over 12,000 veterans and military retirees in the state of Maine (approximately 400 in Aroostook County), who are eligible for benefits and do not know it.
“This service is free of charge,” said Gehring. “The goal of the DAV is making sure that these veterans and their families receive all of the benefits and services they have earned. If a veteran is interested, they need only to come to the van with a VA Claim number, Social Security number, and/or any other pertinent documentation. Members of DAV, Chapter 10 will also be at the van to assist.”
The van will also be in Fort Kent at the parking lot across from the Daigle Funeral Home July 28 at the same time.
