OAKFIELD – Wendell O. Holmes, 81, of Oakfield, died April 13, 2013, at his home. He was born Dec. 14, 1931, in Connell, N.B., Canada, the son of Donald and Emma (Winkley) Holmes.
He had worked for the town of Houlton as a custodian, bus driver and police officer, also for Ward Cabin and Cianbro for 18 years.
He is survived by his wife Sandra (Burpee) Holmes of Oakfield; ten children, Randy Holmes of Tucson, AZ, Wendy Holmes of New Limerick, Mitchell Holmes of Houlton, Deborah Michaud of Mechanic Falls, Christopher Holmes of Houlton, Stephen Holmes of Houlton, Gregory Holmes of Wash., D.C. Lisa Hutchinson of Hodgdon, Gordon Hall of Old Orchard Beach, and Richard Hall of Portland; several grand- and great-grandchildren; one brother, Gerald Holmes of Houlton and two sisters, Wanda Burtt of Ottawa, Can., and Glenna Richard of Fredericton, N.B., Can; several neices, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, a brother, Winifred, two sisters, Eleanor and Jean, and a sibling baby.
Friends may call 1-2 p.m. Sunday, April 21 at the Oakfield Baptist Church with funeral services being held at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Josh Burdon officiating. Interment will be in the Oakfield Cemetery. Arrangements by Bowers Funeral Home, Houlton.
