Registrations open for Special Olympics Spring Games

PRESQUE ISLE — The Special Olympics Aroostook County Area Management Team is pleased to announce that registrations are officially open for the 37th annual Spring Games, to be held on Friday, May 17, at the Johnson Athletic Complex at Presque Isle Middle School. Rain date will be Friday, May 24.

Events this year will include wheelchair races, 50-meter run, 100-meter run, 100-meter walk, 200-meter run, softball throw and standing long jump. Athletes may enter no more than four events, and only two may be walking or running events.
“While registration information is being sent to all of our athletes and agencies who have participated in the past, we wanted to ensure that eligible participants new to the area, or those who are not affiliated with an agency in the region, had a way to find out that registrations are open so they could sign up,” event chair Steve Richard said.
In order to participate, eligible participants and their caregivers will need to fill out specific paperwork, including a time and distance registration form and media release form, and have a medical form completed and signed by a doctor or health care professional.
Forms are due no later than Friday, May 3. If Special Olympics Aroostook does not have a copy of these forms on file for an athlete, that athlete cannot compete in the games. Unfortunately, walk-ons the day of the event cannot be accepted.
