Hospital looking for personal stories of nurses who made a difference

To the editor:
On May 6, Houlton Regional Hospital recognizes National Nurses Week, which is held every year during May 6-12. The purpose of National Nurses Week is to raise public awareness of the value of nursing and to help educate the public about the vital roles nurses play in meeting the health care needs of the American people.

To celebrate National Nurses Week, Houlton Regional Hospital would like to pay tribute to the number of nurses in the community who have and who currently provide highly skilled, safe and quality care in a variety of settings, and who encounter increased challenges to their professional and ethical commitment to deliver essential health care.
Displayed in the concourse of the hospital is a timeline recognizing nursing as a profession and nurses who have devoted their lives to this profession. This is an unfinished project that encourages the community to contribute pictures and stories to our display. The display will be up for the month of May.
Houlton Regional Hospital is soliciting stories that pay tribute to these nurses. Perhaps, for example, an individual may want to thank the nurse who cared for his/her family member; or perhaps a nurse was involved in saving a particular individual’s life and the individual would like to show his/her gratitude. Houlton Regional Hospital would like to hear from your readers and we ask that your newspaper print these testimonials during May 6-12, 2013.
Please help us recognize our area’s nurses and give an individual the opportunity to share his/her story and pay tribute to a particular nurse or to all indispensable nurses on this special day.
