More on gun control

To the editor:
This is in response to a recent letter in the Bangor Daily News titled “Maine decision, not NRA.”
I for one do not want a ban on assault weapons. I do not want to register my guns and make it available to anyone. I do agree with background checks, as long as when that person is approved his or her name would be removed from any database.

You want to prevent another Sandy Hook, so do I. The only way to prevent it from happening again is to turn our schools into locked fortresses. Everyone entering the school goes through metal detectors, the doors are locked, and there are armed guards, nothing else will work. Taking rights away from law abiding citizens, is not the answer. The authorities can’t even keep guns out of prisons, how do you suppose they can do it on the streets.
Oh well if things keep on pretty soon the authorities and the criminals will have all the firepower, but we will still have our slingshots and pea shooters, maybe.
