Local classrooms observe National Agriculture Awareness Week

PRESQUE ISLE – March 17-21 was National Agriculture Awareness Week.
Members of the Maine Agri-Women were the Aroostook County readers who went into classrooms and read agricultural books and then donated the books to the class.

One hundred books were read in 100 classrooms throughout the state of Maine during the week of March 17.
The books read in Aroostook County focused on potatoes. Dairy, forestry, apples, cranberries and blueberries – to name a few – were the other commodities represented.
Each teacher and classroom was given a free book, a poster depicting different commodities, and a packet with activities linked to the Maine Learning Results.
Maine Agriculture in the Classroom donated the books, which were made possible through a grant the organization received.
