DOT paving 10-mile stretch of Route 1

PRESQUE ISLE – Contractors for Maine DOT have started construction on a paving project along 9.88 miles of Route 1 in Presque Isle that could cause delays for motorists in the area.     On Monday, June 30, crews started removing the old pavement on Route 1 on a stretch that starts .75 miles north of the Washburn Road and extends nearly ten miles to just north of Patten Street on Route 1.
Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes such as Route 205 or the East Presque Isle Road and the West Presque Isle Road (McBurnie Road) in order to avoid delays that could last between five and 10 minutes.
Lane Construction of Presque Isle is the contractor for the project. They are removing 1.5 inches of pavement, then repaving with a surface coat of asphalt.
The project will repair rutting, improve safety and help extend the life of the roadway. This stretch of road sees in excess of 9,000 vehicle trips a day.
If the project proceeds on schedule, and there are no weather delays, construction should be complete by July 31.
