The open house of the new Red Brick Cafe on March 16 was a great success. Many people attended, enjoyed the coffee hour and got a good look at the renovations that have taken place during the past few months.

Following the town meeting, more than 60 people attended the public supper. This supper was prepared by many different people all of whom are very interested in having a larger restaurant on the Main Street of the town. The official opening of the restaurant will not be until late April or early May, according to the owners, Peter and Cheryl (Sewall) Connelly.
The Whittier Congregational Church has resumed its regular Sunday morning services following a suspension of services for the month of February. Lay Pastor, John Stevens, will be conducting services on Easter Sunday.
Since we had such nice warm weather last week, I have seen a lot of deer appear on my back lawn. One evening, five appeared about 5 p.m. and wandered all over the place nibbling at the grass showing and the new shoots on small trees. Then, after this group had departed another group of five arrived from the direction of Sam’s house, but by dark they had disappeared also. I am still putting out old bread and cut-up apples for the which they make short work of.
I still have lots of birds and they still go for the peanut butter and lard mixture I give them — especially the nuthatches and woodpeckers. Finally found out the name of the new bird that has been with me all winter — it is a pine grosbeak and hails from Canada, I’m told. They are much more colorful than the regular grosbeaks. The males are a dark red and the females only have a light red on her head. They are very friendly, too. Hardly moving away when I go out to feed them.
