Mapleton Junior Girl Scouts visit Beantown

Troop 292 Junior Girl Scouts in Mapleton saved for two years so they could take a trip to Boston, and spent four days in June in Portland and Boston. They enjoyed visiting the Boston Museum of Science, New England Aquarium, and Faneuil Hall.

Highlights for many of the girls were riding on the subway and being in the city at the same time as the Celtics’ celebration. It was almost as though the city turned “scout” green for their trip!
Hoffses bids farewell to local Scout troop
Boy Scout Troop 170 bid farewell to their Scoutmaster, Richard “Bud” Hoffses, and his wife, Belinda, Sunday, June 29 with a surprise luncheon. Bud has accepted the Rangers position at Katahdin Scout Reservation and will be starting July 14, and Belinda will be joining him late August. He and Belinda have been a part of the troop for 13 years and they will be sorely missed. The new Scoutmaster, Peter Starr, presented the Hoffses with a plaque and picture collage from the troop.

Lawnmower Races
The Chapman Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club wishes to thank the participants and spectators for their support during our breakfast and our new event, the Wacky Lawnmower Races. Gloria would have been pleased with the turnout for the breakfast. Thank you everyone! We hope to involve more people in the lawnmower races next year. It was undecided as to who had the best time at the races: the participants, the station attendants or the audience! Winners were: first place, adult division – Scott Ashby; second place – Leo “Bub” Nadeau; and third place – Kim Archer. First place, youth division – Levi Simpson; second place – Kaci Getchell; and third place – Gene Cyr. Wackiest lawnmower operator – adult division – Scott Ashby; youth division – Kaci Getchell. A big thank you goes to the Mapleton Fire Department and Paul Grendell for keeping everyone safe for the event. It will be bigger and better next year.
