Island Falls News
The owner and developer of the newly renovated Red Brick garage into a restaurant, Peter and Cheryl Connelly, have announced recently that on the 16th of March an open house will be held at the restaurant beginning just a few hours before the annual town meeting, which is at 1 p.m.
Light refreshments will be available during this time and, following the town meeting, a public baked bean supper will be served to any one who wishes to attend. A big crowd is expected, as everyone is anxious to see how a garage can be changed so quickly into a public restaurant. It is located near the river and permission has been granted by the DEC for the owners to make a picnic and playground area to be used in the summer months and I am sure that will be something the children in the area will enjoy.
Despite the snow coming down at a good clip on Feb. 28, several members of the Whittier Congregational Church met in the church vestry for a potluck supper and a business meeting. The services of the church were suspended for the month of February and will resume again on March 10.
Hopefully this last storm on Feb. 28 will be the last of the season. My front yard is now almost full of packed snow and my plowman has no more space left, hardly, to put any more. It’s quite close, too, to the bird feeders but my birds are still there darting around like crazy in and out of the feeders I’ve taken my shovel many times this winter to clear the snow away from the feeders and the chickadees and nuthatches wait patiently for me to finish before coming in for their seeds. Saw the cardinals the other day but they never seem to stay too long.
Fresh deer tracks were all over my backyard so guess the deer haven’t forgotten to come for the goodies I throw out for them. Have lots of bread in my freezer for them and will probably use most of it up by spring.
Happy Losers meet

On Feb.27, the Happy Losers held the weekly meeting at the Congregational Church vestry in Island Falls. Jackie Pratt, the leader opened the meeting with the pledge and roll call.
Nine ladies were weighed-in and attended. Loretta Bouchard was the person who lost the most weight for the week and Ann Morse was runner-up. Great job ladies so says Phil. Reports were given by the secretary and treasurer for the week. Brenda Raymond was the person who lost the most weight for the month of Jan. and Feb. Great job Brenda!
The leader led the program for the week. Her topic was on an article called The Mediterranean Diet, which seems to be a great program with fresh veggies, red meat once a month, and also red wine, plus olive oil. Meeting was interesting and informative.
Please feel welcome to our group every Wed. 8 to 8:45 a.m., weigh-ins and meeting starts at 9 a.m. Call 365-4884 for more info. This is the time of year to start on a weight loss program. It will be spring soon I hope!
