PT Carletta HaganHOULTON – Carletta Marshall Hagan, 87, passed away peacefully Feb. 15, 2013, at a local healthcare facility. She was born Aug. 3, 1925, at Hodgdon, the daughter and only child of Alva and Hazel (Mason) Tidd.
Carletta was a graduate of Hodgdon High School and took great pride in her community, often referring to Aroostook County as “God’s Country.” She was well known for her work ethic. She was employed by the Town of Hodgdon for 40 years, first working in the school system and later at the Hodgdon Town Office. She served several years as town manager of Amity and assisted the administration of block grant funding at Linneus Town Office prior to her first retirement. Carletta retired to be a fulltime “farmer’s wife”, yet her independent nature soon called her back to the work force. She worked for the Southern Aroostook Soil and Water Conservation District for several years prior to her final retirement at age 72. In the midst of all her years of employment, Carletta always put “family first.” She was always available to her children, grandchildren, husbands and parents whenever they needed her. Carletta’s example of unconditional love is the finest gift she has instilled in her children throughout their lifetimes. She enjoyed the exhibits of nature abounding at her Green Lake property. Whether the moose had just eaten part of the tree on the front lawn or a bear had just tried breaking her kitchen window, her later years were always an adventure at the log cabin that she and Don built together. Carletta loved gardening, feeding the birds, and the many, many building projects that she and Don achieved together. In particular, the fireplace they built together from stones was their labor of love, and it was a source of great pride to them both.
Carletta is survived by four children and their spouses, Wesley and Elaine Marshall of Hodgdon, Bonnie and Alan Hill of Sabattus, Trina and Craig Child of Merrimac, NH, Tanya and John Pasquarelli of Hodgdon; twelve grandchildren, Thomas Beaulieu, Leanne Chamberlain, Maria Beaulieu, Robert Beaulieu, Shelley Miller, Laura Haines, Jason Howe, Kristen Child, Kevin Child, Adam Hill, Eve Johnson and Griffin Johnson; eleven great-grandchildren Micah Chamberlain, Emily Chamberlain, Dorian Beaulieu, Calvin Beaulieu, Joshua Miller, Jordan Miller, Abby Haines, Jaxon Howe, Dexter Howe, Walker Howe and Ella Grace Johnson. She was predeceased by her parents, her first husband and loving father to her children, George O. Marshall, her second husband, Donald Hagan, who joyfully embraced his role of step-dad and grandfather to her children and grandchildren alike.
Funeral services were held at the Dunn Funeral Home Monday, Feb. 18, 2013 with Rev. David Raymond officiating. Spring interment will be in the Hodgdon Cemetery. Gifts may be made in Carletta’s memory to the charity of one’s choice, c/o Dunn Funeral Home, 11 Park Street Houlton, ME 04730. Online condolences and guest book: dunnfuneral.com.
