SAD 29 to meet with town officials
The SAD 29 school board will hold a special meeting with town officials from Houlton, Hammond, Littleton and Monticello on Thursday, Feb. 7, at 6 p.m. in the central office to discuss the potential figures for the 2012-13 school budget. The discussion will focus on potential numbers for the next year, which could change depending
on Gov. Paul LePage’s involvement, and will also include opportunities for town officials to ask questions or offer general budget discussion.
Who will kiss the pig?
HOULTON — The Houlton High School Dollars for Scholars committee is holding a “Kiss a Pig” contest at Houlton Junior/Senior High School to raise money for scholarships. The contest runs from Monday, Feb. 11 to Friday, Feb. 15.
The winner will be chosen through a “penny war,” according to Sue Pierce, guidance counselor. Each penny added to a nominee’s jar counts one point toward kissing the pig. Any coin other than a penny that is put in the jar will be taken out and result in points subtracted from the contest for that person.
Jars will be available before and after school near the cafeteria and in front of the school office on the final two days of the contest for any community member that wishes to vote. Candidates for the contest have yet to be determined by the student body.
The lucky winner will kiss a pig during the pep rally assembly on Friday, Feb. 15.
