    De Long, Eugene Sr., 73, January 24, 2013.  A memorial services will be planned for the summer.  Arrangements by Baca’s Funeral Chapels and Sunset Crematory, Las Cruces, New Mexico.

    Eugene “Gene” De Long, Sr., age 73, of Monticello, Maine, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2013 at his daughter’s home in La Union, New Mexico surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 13, 1940 in Mars Hill, Maine to Lee and Margaret Larson De Long.
    “Gene”, as he was fondly known to family and friends, was an avid outdoorsman who especially enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, cribbage, and gardening and was an active member of the Monticello Fish and Game Club, and participated actively in his community. His other interest were in photography, attending sporting events, four wheeling, and snowmobiling, as well as spending time in the woods and at his camp at #9 Lake. He loved spending time with his family and friends.
    Survivors include one son, Eugene “Chuck” De Long, Jr., and wife, Norma, of Harrison Township, Michigan; two daughters, Elizabeth “Tootie” Bell and husband Drake of Hudson, Maine and Lezli De Long-Leyva and husband Manuel of La Union. Other survivors include eight grandchildren, Kristen, Kelly, Lee, Jonathan, Isaac, Laurence, Madison and Liam and four great-grandchildren, Koby, Jadyn, Connor and Carter; five brothers, Vernon, Basil, James, Karl and Keith; two sisters, Linda Hogan and Susan Folsom. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sharon, step-daughter, Laurie, and mother-in-law, Pat.
    A memorial service will be planned for the summer at the Monticello Fish and Game Club, and his cremains will be placed to rest alongside his wife.
    Gene touched many lives and will always be known for his loving and caring nature, as well as his generosity and helpfulness, and will be greatly missed by not only his family but by numerous friends.
