MORO — Icy roads were cited as the cause of a head-on collision on Route 11 in Moro Plantation Nov. 21. According to Maine State Police, Robert Lannon, 62, of Fort Kent was traveling southbound in his 2004 Toyota Corolla when he lost control on an icy patch of road.
Lannon’s vehicle crossed the center line and into the northbound lane, where he struck a 2006 Dodge Charger operated by Lincoln Davenport, 47, of Glenburn. The collision was reported to police by Davenport’s girlfriend, Stacy Raymond, who was traveling behind Davenport in a separate vehicle and witnessed the crash. Raymond narrowly missed striking Lannon’s vehicle.
After the impact, Lannon’s vehicle came to rest in the southbound lane and Davenport’s vehicle came to rest in the ditch of the northbound lane. Lannon’s 73-year-old wife, Essie, was a passenger in his car and was uninjured. Davenport’s 12-year-old son was a passenger in his vehicle and also was uninjured. All of the occupants were wearing seatbelts, according to trooper Timmy Saucier.
Davenport sustained minor injuries to his left wrist. Both vehicles sustained several thousand dollars in damage and both were considered a total loss.
The cause of the crash was attributed to excessive speed for road conditions.
