HOULTON — Four men from southern Aroostook County who were arrested by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency following a criminal investigation in September, were indicted by the Aroostook County grand jury Nov. 9.
Indicted from Houlton were: Ian Small, 21, of Rogers Street, aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs and unlawful trafficking of scheduled drugs; Reggie McGary, 32, of School Street, aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs; Micah Ryan, 20, of Calais Road, unlawful trafficking of scheduled drugs.
Also, Robert Rutty, 32, Crystal Road in Crystal was indicted on two counts of unlawful trafficking of scheduled drugs.
Small and McGary were charged with aggravated trafficking in oxycodone, which is a Class A offense. The charge was elevated to aggravated trafficking because the two reportedly sold narcotics within 1,000 feet of a school. Which school the incident took place near was not identified by police.
Rutty was charged with trafficking in oxycodone, which is a Class B offense.
The Class A crimes carry a minimum four-year prison sentence, while the Class B crimes carry no minimum, but have a 10-year maximum.
According to Darrell Crandall, MDEA division commander, the investigation on the quartet began earlier this summer following multiple tips to police. As part of the overall investigation, MDEA Agents purchased drugs from all of the defendants, some of them on more than one occasion. All of those charged are connected to varying degrees by their criminal activity, while not all of them worked directly together, he said.
