HOULTON — For the past seven years, Katahdin Valley Health Center has held an employee fundraising event to provide Thanksgiving baskets to local families in need. This year, the most successful by far, KVHC employees donated a total of $900 for the event. This total was generously matched by the health center for a total of $1,800. This total will allow KVHC to provide 72 Thanksgiving baskets to local families in Houlton, Island Falls, Millinocket, Patten, and surrounding communities.
Each basket has all the items needed to cook a complete Thanksgiving meal, including a 12-14 pound turkey, stuffing mix, potatoes, gravy, various side dishes and trimmings, and a freshly baked pie. Community members that have received a Thanksgiving basket are given a voucher that can be redeemed for their basket on the Friday before Thanksgiving at Ellis Family Market.

This year’s fundraiser was directed by Megan Day. She says of the fundraiser, “Each year KVHC works with Ellis Market to provide Thanksgiving baskets to families in our communities, this year has been the most successful year that I have been a part of, and it’s all thanks to the generosity of our employees!”
