Thrift Store open house

MILLINOCKET — To mark the fifth anniversary of its move to larger quarters at 112 Maine Ave., Millinocket, St. Martin’s Thrift Store will hold any open house, Saturday, Dec. 1, with all Christmas items reduced by half.
More than 20 volunteers will be on hand that day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in all departments. As part of this anniversary celebration, shoppers will have an opportunity to participate in a drawing for two separate $25 shopping sprees applicable to anything on both levels of the store.
To set the mood for holiday shopping Christmas music will play in the background and fudge and cider will be available at no cost. The week prior to the Saturday sale (Thanksgiving Week) the thrift store will be closed all week long to allow volunteers to enjoy that holiday as well as prepare for the Saturday, Dec. 1 sale.
Merchandise available during the Saturday sale will include gently used furniture, men’s, women’s, children’s and baby clothing, gifts, women’s accessories, gowns, kitchen ware, all types of linens, puzzles, crafts, sewing items and bric-a-brac and knickknacks at more than reasonable prices.
This week marks the fifth anniversary of the thrift store’s move from a tiny building on Colby St. to the more spacious location at 112 Maine Ave., where the store eventually was able to expand to two floors, increase its offerings and institute recycling programs involving unusable clothing and metals.
Proceeds from the store, after expenses, help to support St. Martin’s Emergency Fuel Fund and St. Martin’s Food Pantry, both of which are ministries operated by St. Martin’s Charity and Justice Commission. During the past fiscal year (July 2011-June 2012), the thrift store donated $10,000 to St. Martin’s Emergency Fuel Fund and $2,530 to St. Martin’s Food Pantry.
The non-profit St. Martin’s Thrift Store is open on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
A donation building is located on the thrift store grounds and is accessible day and night all week long for the convenience of those who wish to donate items to the thrift store.
