Fire destroys vacant home

    WESTFIELD – An unoccupied home located on Route 1 was destroyed by fire the evening of Wednesday, June 18.
    Firefighters from the Mars Hill Fire Department responded to a call shortly after 10 p.m. reporting a structure fire at a vacant house in Westfield.     Upon arrival, the crew found the building fully engulfed in flames.
    The house, owned by the Maynard Lawrence family according to he Westfield Town Office, was in the process of being torn down, due to its deterioration.
    A total of 23 firefighters, with mutual aid from neighboring communities, brought the blaze under control but were unable to save the building, which was considered a total loss.
    It was not known at presstime if the structure was insured or what caused the fire.
    No injuries were reported. Firefighters were on site for nearly three hours before clearing the scene.
