HOULTON — After last weekend’s washout, organizers of the town’s inaugural Riverfront Harvest Festival are optimistic for better weather this coming Saturday.
“Sometimes being the director of an event is difficult especially when the decision to postpone falls on your shoulders,” said Jane Torres, executive director for the Greater Houlton Chamber of Commerce. “This past weekend was disappointing, but as we sat in our houses and watched the rain fall we were very grateful for rain dates.”
This Saturday, Oct. 6, organizer will try once again for its festival, and this time it will be tied in to the final Community Market of the season.
“There have been a few changes to the schedule because of conflicts, but our committee is positive that we are bringing a fun packed day for the whole family to enjoy,” Torres said.
The first change is the selection of a free movie for children at the Temple Theatre, “Timothy Green” will be showing at 10 a.m.
“This movie is a wonderful family movie rated PG, but might not be suitable for very small children so the Temple Theatre has graciously offered to also show another movie in its theatre,” Torres said. “Both movies are free courtesy of The Thirsty Dawg and County Yankee Grocer.”
Mellow Endeavor is stepping in for Ted and the Boys on Saturday and will start at 4 p.m. and playing into the evening.
“Houlton is very lucky that Jason Howe and his trio is available to bring us their energetic grooves and northern flavored folk music,” Torres said. “Stop by the park, enjoy some chili, baked potatoes and beverages and hear for yourselves why Mellow Endeavor has such a loyal following.”
The ATV parade is still going through town and across the Gateway Bridge at 4 p.m. so those who would like to join the six mile parade route should bring or ride their ATVs to Houlton High School for a line up at 3:30 p.m. Decorating is encouraged but not necessary and this event is being filmed for a future video so smile and enjoy the ride!
Any questions will be happily answered by calling Torres at 532-4216.
