Houlton Junior Knights still perfect on season

The Houlton Junior Knights stayed perfect on the season last Saturday in the ugly, wet conditions at Houlton’s Airport Field. The Knights defeated the Caribou Huskies 33-6 behind two first-quarter scampers by Nick Botting (six and 23 yards), and two later touchdown runs by second-team tailback, Sam Geary (66 and 37 yards.) Geary also returned a kickoff for another touchdown in the second half, and Jed Grant scored a rushing touchdown for the second week in a row on the old “Statue of Liberty” play— this one from 30 yards out. The first-team defense — led by the Fox twins and Tyler Smith — played the first quarter, and allowed very little.
Caribou scored after a long drive from six-yards out in the second quarter, but the conversion failed, making the scoring sheet settle out at 33-6, Knights. Geary tallied 18 tackles on defense and was assisted by Grant (10 tackles, a forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries) and Botting (six tackles). Nate Mooers was a leader up front on defense until getting banged up in the second quarter. Mike Millet, Jonathan Carmichael and Zach Hagan picked up the slack. Backup quarterback Dalton Wilde played admirably at middle linebacker and led the second-team offense during the second half. Walker Webb made his presence felt at outside linebacker, as well. Grant handled both the kicking and punting duties and kept the Huskies pinned deep most of the day.
“I was really pleased how our boys handled themselves in the sloppy conditions,” coach Bill Alderson said. “It is obvious that the Caribou squad worked on some things and has gotten a lot better from when we played them earlier. They deserve a lot of credit for coming all the way down here and playing in this.”
The Junior Knights are on the road this weekend at Millinocket whom they defeated in week three by a score of 42-14.
“I expect it to be a lot tougher at their place” said assistant coach Steve Martin. “We will be missing some guys, and they will be getting a couple back, and that is a tough place to come out of with a win. We definitely have some work to do this week.”
