This Hawk’s eyes have been resting all summer, preparing for a new school year at Mill Pond School. It’s so nice to be back to see our friends, meet new people, and finally get the opportunity to wear those new school clothes!
We are welcoming our new Vice Principal, Mr. Peter Loiselle. He comes to us from the Ellsworth area and we are amazed at how quickly he has become a fixture here! He likes to greet the students each morning as they enter the building, and he’s been seen at some of the soccer games and other activities around our school. It is a pleasure to have him here!

We have already had our parent breakfast and an open house to allow parents the opportunity to walk around with their students and be shown the different rooms the kids go to each day. Our opening day breakfast was one of the largest attended in recent years with much thanks to Mrs. Rhonda Foster and her organizational skills and planning. What a nice way to ease in to the first day of school … breakfast with Mom and Dad and an escort to the classroom!
Our soccer teams are in full swing and showing their ball handling skills. Thanks to coach Harbison and coach Dorr, the teams have had some success on the field and have learned so much in a short time. We wish them luck as their seasons continue.
At the end of the last school year, 14 students and staff participated in a Math-a-Thon to raise money for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. This small group raised just short of $1,000 for this wonderful cause. Prizes were received after school had ended, so students were just recognized for their effort on behalf of other children suffering from cancer.
The Mill Pond After School Program began its 13th year of programming on Sept. 17 and has seen a steady increase in attendance each day. Thanks to a few adults from the high school and an area farmer, our after school kids were able to have our own version of “harvest” as we gathered pumpkins grown over the summer behind our building. There were enough pumpkins for each student to have one for their own! Thanks to Regina McCombs and Dillon Meserve for directing and helping the students pick the pumpkins from the pumpkin patch!
Keep your eyes open for future Hawk’s Eye write-ups as we continue to learn and grow and experience new skills and opportunities!
