To the editor:
The Rockin’ the Doghouse event last Sunday (Sept. 9) was cancelled a day early because the weather forecast was very bad for Sunday and we were having a petting zoo and kids games and a cold rainy day just didn’t seem to be in anybody’s best interest – because so many people were involved in the event who had to be notified in advance, the organizers could not wait until Sunday morning to decide. As it turned out, the day wasn’t all that bad, but you just never know with these things.
The event has been re-scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 7, right at the animal shelter. There will be a cruise-in for antique and classic cars, music DJ’d by Jonathan Miller, and a petting zoo including horses, goats, chickens, ducks bunnies, puppies and kittens. The Took A Leap Farm will be there with various items from their farm. There will be a barbecue and plenty of activities including a hay scramble for the kids.
The day before, Saturday, Oct. 6, Chuck Loucka will perform at 3 p.m. at the Houlton Community Arts Center. If you recall, Chuck is a concert pianist who is just remarkably talented and he has promised us a little Billy Joel and many other surprises at this concert. One lucky audience member will win a $100 gift certificate to the Elm Tree Diner just for showing up. There will be coffee and donuts afterward.
The concert is free, but donations will be accepted to help the animal shelter.
