A few soccer games were played before the holiday weekend.
The Houlton Lady Shires soccer team overpowered visiting Hodgdon/GHCA, 10-0, last Thursday. Leading scorers for Houlton, with two goals apiece, were Allix Hanson, Alana Pratt, Katie Condon and Natalie Hill.
Scoring single tallies for Houlton were Bre Longstaff and Jessy Dickison. Recording assists in the contest were Sam Keegan with two, Mikaelah Tracy, Alana and sister Evelyn Pratt.
Combining for the shutout, Marina Cameron and Tanika Toby turned back five of six shots faced. For Hodgdon/GHCA, Marissa Malone was pelted with 33 shots on goal, stopping 10.
The East Grand Lady Vikings edged Shead, 3-1 in Danforth last Friday behind Shaunna Beaudoin’s three first-half goals. Lauren Morse added an assist, while goalie Chelsea Winiarski blocked nine of 11 shots faced.
For Shead, Brook Robinson scored in the second half and goalie Samantha Wilde had 14 saves on 17 shots.
The Southern Aroostook girls soccer team blanked visiting Katahdin last Thursday, 6-0, as Katie Prescott paced the Lady Warriors’ offense with three goals. Liz Bishop scored twice and Cassidy Lyons added a single tally. Kristen Tarr posted two assists, while Kennedi Smith and Jessica Nye combined for the shutout by making eight saves.
For Katahdin, Makayla Patterson blocked 29 of 35 shots faced.
Last Monday, the Lady Warriors shut down host GHCA/Hodgdon, 4-0.
Cassidy Lyons scored twice for Southern Aroostook, while Prescott and Beth Bishop each netted a goal. Smith recorded the shutout.
In boys action, East Grand and visiting Shead met last Friday in a season mutual opener, with the Tigers picking up a 3-0 victory.
Brennin Consalvi, Nicholas Barnes and Will Urquhart all scored in the second half for Shead. John Cushing added an assist. Ryan Eylar made eight saves.
For East Grand, Alex Brittain had 19 saves.
Last Thursday, the Houlton Shiretowners overtook Hodgdon/GHCA 5-0. Brandon Ward scored twice in the first half and Jimmy Fitzpatrick added two tallies in the second half.
Freshman Connor Grant cracked the net first for Houlton on a Gage Hunt assist at the 22:37 mark of the opening half. Ward then followed with an unassisted tally with 8:16 left in the half; seven minutes later he connected for his second goal off Kyle Bouchard’s assist.
In the second half, Fitzpatrick’s first notch was a the 32:24 mark, assisted by both Hunt and Bouchard. Eight minutes later, Fitzpatrick converted another unassisted goal.
Kole Buzzeo in net stopped two of four shots, while Hodgdon/GHCA goalie Tristan Larson made 10 saves on 32 shots faced.
At Dyer Brook, the Southern Aroostook Warriors picked up a 3-1 win over visiting Katahdin.
Cody Lassonde led the way for the Warriors with three first-half goals. Goalie Austin White faced a flurry of breakaway shots in the latter stages of the game, coming up with six saves.
For Katahdin, Bill Livezey scored unassisted in the second half, while goalie Cody Brownlee had 12 saves in the contest.
