HOULTON — Patrons at Ivey’s Motor Lodge in Houlton may have noticed a welcoming new room filled with tempting smells near the main lobby.
Owner Rick Kelley recently created a new continental breakfast area at his motel, complete with tables, comfy lounge chairs and a computer area connected to the Internet so guests can surf the web while enjoying their breakfast.
Previously, the hotel offered a limited continental breakfast in its bar area, but Kelley said he never felt comfortable having guests with young children having to come into the bar. The new continental breakfast includes eggs, sausage, bagels, muffins, several types of cereal, toast, coffee, juice and milk. In the future, Kelley hopes to add a waffle maker.
“Seeing the necessity of needing a full service breakfast area for our guests, I decided to knock out two guest rooms and create a new breakfast room,” Kelley said.
Kelley did about 80 percent of the construction work himself. The room is done in warm brown tones to create an inviting atmosphere for guests. Future plans for the room include the installation of a flat screen television and an electric fireplace.
Receives award
For the fourth consecutive year, Ivey’s Motor Lodge has received the Best of Houlton Award by the U.S. Commerce Association (USCA). The USCA program recognizes outstanding local businesses throughout the country that have achieved exceptional marketing success in their local community and business category. These are local companies that enhance the positive image of small business through service to their customers and community.
Nationwide, only 1 percent of 2011 Award recipients qualified as Three-Time Award Winners. Various sources of information were gathered and analyzed to choose the winners in each category. The 2011 USCA Award Program focuses on quality, not quantity. Winners are determined based on the information gathered both internally by the USCA and data provided by third parties.
