Is it time to learn something new?

Editor’s Note: This is the sixth in a series of summer articles designed to introduce the local Adult Education menu of services to area residents.
Your local Adult Education program offers a variety of enrichment and continuing education classes.  These classes have the goal of providing the opportunity to pursue a specific interest, brush up on job skills, take up a hobby, or learn some new skills. Classes range from basic computers to specific computer software training, social media basics, resume writing, digital photography, quilting and sewing, cake decorating, woodworking, hunter safety, driving dynamics, and more. The times and fees vary according to the specific offering. Stop by the office at the Houlton Higher Education Center and pick up a schedule or to submit suggestions for future possibilities.
Additionally, classes are offered with a focus on the health sciences field. Such classes include CPR & First Aid courses, a 50 hour Personal Support Specialist (PSS) course, a 220 hour Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) course, and an 120 hour Certified Nursing Assistant – Meds(CNA-M) course. All of which could be a step along the “career pathway” leading to a 2 or 4 year nursing degree. Next week, read about the online course opportunities offered through the Adult Education Ed2Go link.
Please contact the Adult Education center for dates on the next pre-registration sessions (approx. three hours long) for academic courses. There is no charge for GED/High School completion services, and all other classes are supported by a combination of student fees, local, state, federal, and agency funding.
