Early this spring I noticed a bulls eye tiger cat outside the salon in the mornings. Every day when I arrived at the salon at 5 a.m., she would be out on Main Street chasing birds and just wandering around. At first I thought that she must be someone’s cat. She never missed a morning no matter what the weather was like. One morning I tried to approach her, but she became nervous and ran. I guess it was then that I knew she did not have a home. She was very thin, and was obviously looking for food. A few times I tired to catch her, but was unsuccessful.
A few weeks back I received a phone call from a gentleman who had seen her and also thought she was thin, he was able to get close enough to pat her. I went back out and tried to catch her, but again I was unsuccessful.
I received a phone call from a woman who had also seen her and was very concerned about her well being. She asked if she was able to catch her if we would take her. I didn’t even hesitate with my answer; of course we would take her. She started putting food in a carrier so the cat would go in. The first attempt at closing the door when the cat went in was unsuccessful. She was too quick and escaped. The lady was gone for a few days so the rescue would have to wait, or so we thought.
The carrier was left in the same spot to get the cat familiar with it and it seems there were a few other people who were also looking out for this little cat. They spotted her in the carrier and were able to get the door closed with her in it. They then brought her to me, she was starving, she ate three cans of food before stopping.
After examining her it was no wonder she was so hungry, she was pregnant and ready to give birth any day. She doesn’t appear to be much more than a kitten herself. Imagine a kitten wandering the streets looking for a home and also a safe place to have her babies. We have named her Sadie and she is safe and warm. She has been treated for parasites and the food dish is never empty. She has a comfortable place to have her babies, and she is very content.
Sadly there are hundreds of cats like Sadie wandering the streets looking for food and shelter. Sadie was fortunate enough to be one of the lucky ones. To everyone involved in her rescue, thank you for caring enough to make a difference and helping a stray cat. Sadie is forever grateful.
