PT Herbert HuntWATERVILLE – Herbert “Jim” James Hunt Jr., 69, died Aug. 24, 2012. He was born Sept. 10, 1942, in Waterville, son of Herbert James and Margaret (Gordon) Hunt.
Jim graduated from Stearns High School, class of 1961, where he participated in basketball and baseball, drama and band. He attended Ricker College, Houlton.
He was involved in the early days of WMKR Radio, Millinocket; was station manager at WHOU; and enjoyed the beauty of Baxter State Park as a gate keeper for several years. Jim was active in local civic organizations; he was state director of Houlton Jaycees, chairman of the Houlton Retail Trade Board, member of Houlton Rotary and coached Little League baseball and PeeWee basketball for many years. His greatest love and interest was his family, attending his children’s and grandchildren’s activities, and hearing about all their escapades. He liked his camp, hunting and fishing, but loved the activities when all the family was involved. Jim was a true Yankee fan.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Bonita (O’Roak) Hunt; two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Christine of Houlton, and Kevin and Jessica of Bridgton; adored daughter, Bethany Hunt of Houlton; and his pride and joy, his grandchildren, Jacob, Gage and MacKenzie Hunt of Houlton, Connor and Ellery Hunt of Bridgton, and Emily and Ryan Dee of Houlton. He was predeceased by his parents.
The family thanks the wonderful staff at PUC at Houlton Regional Hospital for the loving care given to Jim and the family during his long stay.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 2, at Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water St., Houlton. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to Houlton Little League. For an online memory book and to leave condolences, please visit www.bowers funeral.com.
