HOULTON — The scoreboard that graces Houlton High School’s soccer field was dedicated to the late Dan Tracy Friday evening during an emotional ceremony held in-between the boys and girls soccer games with Fort Kent.
Houlton High School Principal Marty Bouchard asked for a moment of silence before beginning the ceremony.
“Fourteen months ago Dan Tracy passed away after a courageous three-year battle with cancer,” Bouchard said. “Dan was a 1980 Houlton High School graduate, was a successful community and business leader and was active in the Houlton sports boosters. He was particularly supportive of the school’s soccer program.”
Tracy’s widow, Karen, and daughter Mikaelah, who plays on the girls soccer team, were asked to come forward to receive flowers.
“We are happy to dedicate this scoreboard in memory of Dan Tracy,” Bouchard said.
Karen Tracy said she was overwhelmed by the show of support from the school and the community both during her husband’s illness and after his passing.
“We are very honored by the presentation,” she said. “I know Dan would be very proud.”
As a touching show of support, members of the Fort Kent boys soccer team shook hands with Karen Tracy.
