PORTLAND, Maine — The Houlton Post Office will be offering a special pictorial postmark in support of a local Maliseet Indian celebration of their culture, families and official government recognition.
A postal booth will be set up at the events field located at 88 Bell Road, Littleton on Saturday, September 15, from noon to 2 p.m. Postmaster Henry Gartley and his staff will stamp letters and postcards with a unique postmark documenting the event. Specially authorized by the U.S. Postal Service, this special postmark is a wonderful way to take home an inexpensive souvenir of the occasion.
Customers can also request the special postmark free-of-charge by mail for 30 days after the event by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope containing the letter or envelope they wish to be cancelled to: Postmaster, 39 Court Street, Houlton, ME, 04730-9998.
“We will be happy to cancel and return by mail any letters that our customers mail to us,” said Gartley. “Customers may also bring in their own envelopes to obtain a postmark that they can take home as a keepsake.”
