HOULTON — Electronics work well, until they don’t. That’s what far too many of us find when it comes to anything to do with our computers. A computer is a great tool until that virus hits and wipes out our photographs or other useful information. Then the reaction is do I scream? Or drop-kick the machine?
VirtualTech is a new business located in Houlton that could protect your computer from those unexpected and unwanted attacks.
“We can resolve your issues quickly and efficiently, with peace of mind knowing that your personal data is secured,” said Londa Boreland, who owns VirtualTech with her husband Doug.
Many in the community may already know Londa, who works as a teller at Bangor Savings Bank. She has more than 25 years of customer service experience, while her husband began his professional career in 1992 as a programmer in small 20-person shop. He has more than 20 years of experience as a programmer analyst/technician.
“Over the years, I have had the pleasure of working for the largest investment banking firm in Canada, as well as Fortune 500 companies in the United States,” said Doug, who holds a degree in computer science. Londa holds an arts degree.
Both Borelands also hold associate degrees, as well.
With such an extensive background, how did the Borelands discover Houlton?
“We re-located to Houlton last year,” said Londa. “I am originally from California, while my husband is from Fredericton, New Brunswick. We both met in Phoenix and lived there for 20 years. With a decline in my mother-in-law’s health, we decided to be closer to family.”
Londa said both she and her husband were naturally drawn to this field of work.
“We really enjoy helping people and being a part of a community,” she said.
VirtualTech offers an array of expert services in data backup, optimization/system clean up, custom software programs, installation/removal along with updates/upgrades, virus/malware/spyware/Wifi protection and general computer issues.
And, the best part is the diagnostic consultation is free and is done without having to move your computer from your home or office.
“Our services require an Internet connection only,” Londa explained. “No need to unhook your equipment and drive into town.”
In a virtual setting, Londa and Doug provide remote computer services and support.
“We also [offer] customized Windows software programs that will be available soon,” added Londa. “We are a new Maine-based business and proudly leave soft footprints for a greener tomorrow. The products we use have a proven record of protecting computers by completely removing harmful viruses that can lead to theft or destruction of your personal data.”
