Ormsby plans appeal

CARIBOU — Thayne Ormsby will appeal his murder conviction, according to documents filed in Aroostook County Superior Court.
Attorneys for Ormsby, a 22-year-old Orient man who was sentenced in June for killing three people in Amity back in June 2010, filed paperwork to appeal the case on June 27, court clerks said Tuesday.
Ormsby’s attorneys, Sarah LeClaire and James Dunleavy, filed the notice of appeal and application to allow an appeal of sentencing on behalf of their client.
The documents have been sent to the Maine Supreme Judicial Court for review, the clerk said.
Ormsby was convicted of three counts of murder April 13 following a lengthy trial at Aroostook County Superior Court in Houlton. Killed in the rampage were Jeffrey Ryan, 55; Ryan’s son Jesse, 10; and family friend Jason Dehahn, 30, all of Amity. The trio was killed on June 22, 2010.
During the trial, jurors watched the police confessional videotape of Ormsby, admitting to the murders and describing them in detail. His attorneys attempted to have the confession thrown out, but were unsuccessful.
